Amma Mobile Scheme for Women Self-Help Groups

Tamilnadu CMJ Jayalalithaa announced an Amma Mobile scheme for the benefit of 20,000 trainers at self-help groups on Monday. Its a suo motu announcement in the assembly by the chief minister. She said the scheme would be introduced in the current fiscal. It will meet with an expenditure of Rs 15 crore to the state exchequer. Jayalalithaa said that the groups manage several records pertaining to conducting meetings, payment, savings and details of loans among themselves and a special mobile application will be designed to ensure registration of details and to monitor the functioning of each group. The state has 6.08 lakh self-help groups (SHGs), with a membership of 92 lakh women. Federations are also created at the village level and each one comprises 25 groups. Trainers are available for each SHG to monitor the progress of their members.
